Oklahoma governor appoints committee to study taxes

May 16, 2017

In 1947, Gov. Roy J. Turner appointed a committee to study state taxes, especially estate taxes. The committee recommended a long list of changes, one of which was to raise the estate tax exemption to $60,000. That change would not come until 1974. The sales tax exemption bill died in March, bottled up in committee by the welfare lobby.
