One farmer fed about 11 people. At the time, there were about 196,000 farms in Oklahoma with an average size of 174 acres. The population of Oklahoma was 2,336,434 with about 196,000 farms and ranches in the state. One of every three people was a farmer or part of a farm family. About 80 percent of Oklahoma farmers did not belong to any farm organization.
