In 1979, water again provided a subject of controversy in the legislature with a Farm Bureau-backed bill allowing for involvement by the state in the development of the state’s water at the local level. Water rights holders were granted additional notification time under a bill requiring the Water Resources Board to give claimants 60 days notice, instead of 30, of any hearing affecting water rights.
